Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly issued an invitation for the soon-to-happening Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) summit in 2023. The summit will focus on AI advancements and innovations. The summit will be hosted in Bharat Mandapam from December 12 to 14. Around 28 member countries and the EU are part of the GPAI. India is the co-founder of GPAI, a forum that guides the responsible development and usage of AI. This AI partnership commenced in June 2020.  

PM Modi recently sent the invite in a post on LinkedIn and claimed that AI is a frequently advancing technology with tremendously expanding applications. He said, “In this whirlwind of rapid advancement, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one area where its applications expand exponentially. This revolutionary technology is now in the hands of a new generation – young, brilliant minds swiftly enriching its vast potential. As one of the youngest nations with a vibrant startup ecosystem and a talented workforce, India is poised to be an active contributor to the evolution of AI as the world leaps into a not-so-distant future.” 

PM Modi also emphasised India’s growth for the past decade, where India made remarkable strides with the assistance of technology. He claimed that the country has achieved rapid progress in a short span of time, thanks to the fast-paced penetration of mobiles, internet connectivity, and scalable models for digital inclusion. He added that India uses AI to serve citizens in their native language, make education easier and personalised, make healthcare more accessible, and make agriculture more informed.  

The GPAI Summit of 2023 will involve various insightful sessions like the AI Expo, where 150 startups will showcase their power. PM Modi also proclaimed that the summit would act as a testament to India’s commitment to harnessing technology, specifically AI, for the welfare of people by ensuring that nations of the Global South are not the last to reap its benefits.
