Early in 2021, Poland's Council of Ministers released the ‘Policy for Artificial Intelligence Development in Poland from 2020’, an official strategy paper that laid out the possibilities of economic prosperity that the country can unlock with the support of artificial intelligence (AI). Additionally, the policy document establishes the framework and basic principles to use the potential of AI in Poland.

The document is released in continuation of other such papers such as the Responsible Development Strategy, the EC Coordinated Plan on Artificial Intelligence, and other internationally-produced papers by international organizations such as the OECD. The policy lists down specific targets, measures and objectives that the country needs to achieve in the short term (up until 2023), medium-term (up until 2027) and long term (2027 onwards).

The policy listed down six strategic areas for development in AI in Poland:

• AI and society – how can Poland be a leading beneficiary of a data-based economy;
• AI and innovative firms – creating mechanisms and financing Polish AI firms, and set-up collaboration opportunities between AI start-ups and the government to support their development
• AI and science – support the Polish scientific and research community in designing interdisciplinary AI challenges and solutions;
• AI and education – introduce AI and other technologies in schools, from primary education to higher education;
• AI and international cooperation – steps to support Polish business AI development in the international arena;
• AI and the public sector – supporting and encouraging AI contracts in the public sector, better coordination of measures, and continued development of programs such as GovTech Polska 

To ensure that this vision is transformed into reality, a government task force would be set up, attached to the Information Technology Minister, to monitor its implementation in Poland and coordinate the measures.
