Researchers at the Pune-based Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) have used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create a digital tool to detect lung infection using patients' chest X-ray.

As per the press release on the website, the AI tool supports health practitioners analyse chest X-rays of suspected patients to immediately see any abnormalities due to COVID-19 infection or any other respiratory problems. The tool doesn't take patient's health parameters into account before coming to a conclusion.

However, the press release explicitly states that the tool is to be used as a suggestion only, and that too be qualified professionals. "It is not intended as, nor is it capable of being, advice on any specific problem or a replacement for individual professional medical advice, consultation, opinions or therapies advised to you by your medical practitioner," announced the press release.
