The Saudi Ministry of Interior unveiled a groundbreaking development in security technology at the World Defense Show 2024 in partnership with Lucid Motors. They introduced the first electric security vehicle equipped with Artificial Intelligence technologies. Developed within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, this vehicle is designed to enhance security by utilising AI systems to monitor security violations and spot traffic law violators and wanted criminals through advanced facial recognition using six integrated cameras.
Besides identifying the vehicle license plates and analysing behaviour through facial expressions, the AI-powered vehicle also possesses the ability to analyse data and communicate with command and control centres, which significantly boosts security levels and traffic safety. Moreover, the vehicle includes a drone on its roof capable of flying to capture footage in criminal scenes like shooting incident scenes, thus gathering crucial data for patrol units.
The World Defense Show 2024, managed by the Saudi General Authority for Military Industries, highlights bringing air, land, sea, satellite, and cybersecurity systems under one roof by providing an ideal environment for networking, innovation, and encouraging companies. The show’s second edition features over 750 exhibitors from over 75 countries and 115 delegations, showcasing the latest defence technology and innovation.
This electric security vehicle signifies a substantial step towards integrating sustainable practices with cutting-edge security technologies, emphasising Saudi Arabia’s commitment to environmental sustainability and technological advancement in the security sector.
Lucid’s manufacturing plant is behind this AI-powered electric security vehicle, which was inaugurated in December 2023 in King Abdullah Economic City, Jeddah. Lucid intends to produce 5,000 vehicles per year, with plans to scale up to manufacturing 155,000 electric vehicles per year. The initiative aligns with the Saudi Green Initiative, which was launched by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in 2021. The initiative seeks to engage all societal sectors in sustainability efforts and accelerate climate action in the Kingdom.
