Edtech startup STEMpedia recently launched Codeavour 2020 AI, an international online AI and coding competition for kids. The competition is being held in collaboration with the Motwani Jadeja Foundation, a renowned US-based venture fund that has invested many renowned companies like Google and PayPal. 

The aim of Codeavour 2020 AI is to use AI and coding to come up with innovative solutions to real-world problems using PictoBlox – an AI-enabled graphical coding platform.

The competition, which went live on 2nd October 2020, is expected to see 50,000+ participants across 30+ countries. It is divided into four age groups: 7-9 years, 10-13 years, 14-17 years, and 17+ years for educators and hobbyists. Participants can enter the competition both individually and in teams of two.

The central theme of the competition is to make the world a better place using artificial intelligence and coding with five sub-themes: beat the pandemic with AI, automate the surroundings with AI and ML, fun with AI and coding, innovative transportation solutions, and space exploration.

The participants don’t need to have any prior AI or coding skills. Online learning resources will be provided to understand and develop the skills required for participating in the competition. They can also opt for live-session-led online courses.

“Through this blog, we expect to receive participation from students and collaboration with schools and activity centres as our academic and business partners respectively,” said Abhishek Sharma, cofounder, STEMpedia.

50+ prizes worth $6,000 in total including Apple iPads, DIY educational kits, smartwatch kits, and scholarships, among others, are on offer. The competition is also seeing collaboration from numerous educators, principals, academic leaders, and STEM and STEAM business leaders around the world.

The last date for submission is 20 December 2020. The results will be announced on 10 January 2021.
