Recently, Swayam announced a course in machine learning in Tamil. Prof. Arun Rajkumar from IIT Madras will teach the course called "Introduction to Machine Learning in Tamil". It is a short course on the main ideas and algorithms of machine learning.
What is Swayam?
Swayam is a program started by the government of India. This effort aims to make sure that everyone, even the poorest, has access to the best tools for teaching and learning.
About the course
The goal of the course is to cover the topics at a high level so that it is the first course for an entire Machine Learning course. The IIT Assistant professor will teach the course in spoken Tamil, but technical terms, tests, and homework will be English.
Who can apply?
Teachers and college students who speak Tamil as their native language can apply.
Prerequisite
It would be beneficial to have an introductory course in linear algebra, probability, programming, or algorithms.

All companies that focus on data, including those whose primary business is in search, e-commerce, or social media
Course layout
Week 1: Basics of Linear Algebra, Probability, Optimization
Week 2: Introduction to Supervised Learning - Regression; Topics - Linear Regression; Ridge Regression; LASSO
Week 3: Supervised Learning - Classification; Topics: K-NN, Decision Tree.
Week 4: Supervised Learning - Classification; Topics: Naive Bayes.
Week 5: Supervised Learning - Logistic Regression, Perceptron.
Week 6: Supervised Learning - Support Vector Machines
Week 7: Supervised Learning - Ensemble Methods
Week 8: Unsupervised Learning - K-means Clustering, PCA
Course certificate
Anyone can sign up for and learn from the course for free. But if you want a certificate, you have to sign up and take the proctored exam in person at one of the places we have set up as exam centres.

Arun Rajkumar is an assistant professor in the Computer Science and Engineering department at IIT Madras. His PhD thesis was about machine learning, and his main areas of research interest are machine learning and sequential decision making.
