Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged at the forefront of technology development, and governments and private players are heavily investing in research and development (R&D) for new AI-driven products, services, and solutions.

The latest country to join the bandwagon is Vietnam. In the past week, the country launched a national strategy that focuses on research, development and application of AI by 2030. The overall aim of the plan is to gradually convert Vietnam into an innovation and AI hub in ASEAN and the world. Part of the plan is to develop three national big data and high-performance computing centres and 10 prestigious AI trademarks in the region.

In the past few years, Vietnam's domestic tech and innovative start-ups have increased their investments in AI research and innovation to foray into new business models. The leading companies of the country are doing extensive R&D, investing in supercomputer technologies, creating thriving tech ecosystems in the fields of healthcare, automobiles, self-driving cars and customer management.

By 2030, Vietnam aims to establish 50 interconnected open databases in various economic zones of the country. the process to accomodate these has already begun; legal documentation is being finalised, frameworks to adapt AI into governance are being created, and international relations to promote AI acceleration are being developed. Additionally, opportunities to train human resources in emerging tehnologies is also being addressed that will help with creating database for AI infrastructure.
