WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out Artificial Intelligence-powered image generation tools incorporated in various features. After successfully testing AI-generated stickers, WhatsApp is on a mission to test the new feature enabling users to generate their own AI-powered profile pictures, WhatsApp stated in their platform WABetaInfo, sparking excitement among tech enthusiasts.
According to the report, WhatsApp’s new beta version for Android, which is available on the Google Play Store for selected users, has unveiled a new option for users to generate profile pictures from text prompts.
WhatsApp’s new feature not only allows users to edit or change their profile pictures but also provides an additional option to create one. This unique feature allows users to “Describe an Image” using text prompts, which the AI model then uses to generate a custom profile photo, giving users full control over the process of creating a profile picture.
This feature is expected to be part of Meta’s privacy improvement initiative for WhatsApp, as the company recently unveiled another feature that blocks users from taking screenshots of profile pictures on the platform.
The report highlights that the use of AI for profile pictures can significantly reduce the risk of image misuse or non-consensual sharing, adding an extra layer of security. While the feature is still in development, it is expected to roll out in select regions soon. Notably, meta has yet to introduce AI-generated stickers in India, a feature that allows users to create and share custom stickers on WhatsApp using AI.
