Ajay Prakash Sawhney, an alumnus of IIT-Delhi and a mechanical engineer by education, is an IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. He is the former Secretary to the Government of India at the Ministry of Electronics and IT.

Sawhney has worked in multiple essential positions for both the Government of India and the governments of his cadre. In the mid-1999-2005, as a designated officer for IIIT Hyderabad and Secretary of IT for the state government, Ajay Prakash Sawhney came to the recognition for his triumph in moulding the conceptual paradigm and advancement of IIIT Hyderabad. As Secretary, IT, at Department of Information Technology in the Andhra Pradesh State Government, he was also recognised for getting large amounts of investment from firms such as Microsoft, Wipro, TCS leading up to a period of unparalleled growth in the IT infrastructure of Hyderabad.
