Introduction

This report by Capgemini titled ‘Reinventing Cybersecurity with Artificial Intelligence: The new frontier in digital security’ emphasises on the increased adoption of AI to tackle cyberattacks. Today, data is vulnerable to threats from hackers, and with their ability to commit theft or cause harm remotely, it becomes imperative for organisations to protect their assets.

In 2018, Cisco blocked seven trillion threats on behalf of their customers.

The report has surveyed 850 senior executives from IT Information Security, Cybersecurity and IT operations in seven sectors across 10 countries. Besides, industry experts and academicians were also interviewed to better understand the cybersecurity challenges and how AI is helping to overcome those issues. It also highlights that have successfully deployed cybersecurity solutions using AI.

Why is this report relevant?

Internet traffic all over the world is set to increase three-fold from 2017 to 20223. With increasing data volume, it is getting increasingly difficult for cyber analysts to monitor the velocity, volume and variety across firewalls. Besides, with an increase in cyber attacks, critical operations within an enterprise will also require enhanced capabilities through AI.

There are some cyber attacks that require immediate intervention; the number of these cases are rising by the day. In this environment, organisations are understanding the magnitude of effort that is required to secure themselves from cyberattacks.

This report also brings to light how firms are responding by increasing investment in AI-based solutions. The pace of adoption of AI in cybersecurity has increased, especially in the area of network security, data security and endpoint security.

Further, it gives use cases of how organisations are successfully adopting AI in the realm of cybersecurity. The findings also suggest that AI makes organisations faster at responding to breaches, and results in new revenue streams through cybersecurity offerings.
